No gods Besides Allah, Nor Is He Three of Two
there are about twenty references to this matter, including Allah’s Command to His Honorable Prophet to bear witness that Allah is the only one ‘Ilah (God), and to be truly innocent of what some people join in worship, with Him, The Verses make it clear that worshiping Allah, The One, The Irresistible is better than worshiping many different lords (gods), and than setting up along with Allah another ‘Ilah (God), and setting up rivals (in worship) with Him. The Verses inform us that whoever does this will leam that he is in the wrong and will be severely tormented on the Day of Resurrection. We represent these Verses by the following ones:
6:19. Say (O Muhammad (bpbuh)): “…this Qur’an has been revealed to me that I may therewith warn you and whomsoever it may reach. Can you verily bear witness that besides Allah there are other ‘alihah (gods)?” Say, “I bear no (such) witness!” Say, “But in truth He (Allah) is the only one ‘Illah (God). And truly I am innocent of what you join in worship with Him.”
12:39. “O two companions of the prison! Are many different lords (gods); better or Allah, the One, the Irresistible?
15:96. Who set up along with Allah another ‘Ilah (god); but they will come to know.
41:9. Say (O Muhammad (bpbuh)): “Do you verily disbelieve in Him Who created the earth in two Days? And you set up rivals (in worship) with Him? That is the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinn and all That exists).
50:26. ‘Who set up another ‘Ilah (god) with Allah. Then both of you cast him in the severe torment.”
Allah also forbids that anyone say Allah is Three, and tells us that whoever says that He is the third of the three (in a Trinity) has committed unbelief. Allah forbids taking ‘ilahayn (two gods in worship). All these meanings occur in three Verses, which are all cited here, namely:
4:171. …so believe in Allah and His Messengers. Say not, “Three (trinity)!” Cease! (it is) better for you. For Allah is (the only) One ‘Ilah (God)…
5:73. Surely, disbelievers are those who said: “Allah is the third of the three (in a Trinity). “But there is no ‘Ilah (god) (none who has the right to be worshiped) but One ‘Ilah (God – Allah).
,16:51. And Allah said (O mankind!), “Take not ‘ilahay’: (two gods in worship). Verily, He (Allah) is (the) only One ‘Ilah (God).
